About Adriene Madden

I’m Adriene Madden with Adventures In The Schoolhouse. I’m a mother of four, teacher, and Children’s picture book author. I began my journey homeschooling my own children right here in my “Little Red Schoolhouse”. Eight years ago I opened my doors to the public so that children pre-k-5th grade could have the same rich hands on learning experiences that my own kids have had in the Schoolhouse... lessons that last a lifetime!

About the Curriculum

Our multi-sensory project based language arts program is rooted in literature for students pre-K to 5th grade. Students explore phonics, vocabulary, poetry, grammar, and informational text writing through engaging thematic lessons based on our “letter of the week.”

We incorporate science with our outdoor classroom by working in the garden and with our animals.

Little learners also enjoy baking and crafting which strengthen fine motor skills, introduce math concepts, teach collaboration, and provide a sensory rich learning environment with memorable lessons that last a lifetime.

About the Garden

Here in The Little Red Schoolhouse we believe that planting a garden is believing in tomorrow! Students have many learning opportunities and life lessons here in our garden. From planting a milkweed butterfly garden, to planting and harvesting an array of herbs and veggies to cook and bake with in the kitchen. We like to think that the most important thing we plant in the hearts and minds of our students is love and kindness. Our motto for the garden is plant laughter, grow kindness, and harvest love!

About Baking

Little learners explore science and math concepts in measuring and mixing as well as working with liquids and solids here in the kitchen. Project based baking and cooking lessons create memorable teaching moments in teamwork, communication, taking turns, patience, and working together towards a common goal.

About Our Reading

Our thematic lessons are rooted in literature and reading. Through books we are able to explore fiction and non-fiction, have adventures, let our imagination take flight, and learn about the world around us.

About our Chickens

Here In the Little Red Schoolhouse we’ve been hatching and raising chicks Since my kids were babies! Each spring, little learners read, write, and learn all about raising chickens, the anatomy of a chicken, and the best part of all… The “chicken life cycle”. Students love caring for our mother hen and counting down the days until our baby chicks hatch. Click here for more pictures of our chickens.
