Chicken Life Cycle
Chicken Life Cycle Stem Journal
Happy spring mamas!
We have some fun cross-curricular life cycle projects that we have created for pre-K through 5th grade hands-on learning this spring! Download our STEM Life Cycle journal and join our adventure in learning to hatch chicks of your own.
Our little learners at the Little Red Schoolhouse used STEM journals to document every day of the embryo development! Then we counted down the days until our baby chicks hatched!
Anatomy of a Chicken
While waiting for the new chicks, our students learned the anatomy of a chicken, starting at the top with our hen’s comb. Having hands-on, real life experiences makes our spring life cycle project so much fun for our students!

Time to Hatch!
Nature has always influenced our weekly lessons and curriculum, and our little learners got to witness nature in action with the hatching of our baby chicks!
We loved counting down the 21+ days in our Chick Life Cycle STEM Journals, and getting to read, write, and learn all about chickens!
Our little learners picked their favorite chick to name, while finding inspiration in their “chick subject” for their coloring sheets! (My favorite is “chocklit cake”)
Chick-Hatching Certifications
Our scientists wrapped up their chicken life cycle STEM journals, and wrote stories of their own about our baby chick hatchings! They were all very proud to receive their “chick-hatching certificates” for their hard work in learning, feeding, and caring for our mama hen & baby chicks!
From Eggs to Chicks
That’s a wrap for our Chicken Life Cycle Project! Our little learners were over the moon about our 12 little hatchlings...
Creating rich hands-on learning experiences for students gets them excited about their writing and learning. So fun watching these students observe, care for, and raise their hatchlings until they are old enough to join the other adult chickens in the coop!
